Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 7/29/23

Lots of things going on in the world of Lycan!
Chapter 1
As I previously mentioned I started the ball rolling on ordering more books of Lycan: Solomon's Odyssey Chapter 1. It's the book I always sell more of at shows AND I'll always need them for Kickstarters. There's about a 3 month wait before receiving the books, so I wanted to get the ball rolling.
I had a little back and forth with the printer this week as we made some modifications to a few pages, including the covers. Once those were done and out of the way, I approved the book for print! At this point, they will do another check to make sure everything is ok. If so, they will begin printing. That should take a few weeks, and then they'll bind the books which will take a couple more weeks. Then they'll be shipped and I'll receive them 4-6 weeks later.
Chapter 3
This week we received pages 40 and 41 finished from the artist!
We also received pages 15, 16, and 17 from the colorist. There are a couple modifications I would like to make to 15, because I'm worried the image will be confusing to the reader. We'll keep working on that though!
Chapter 4
The editor has begun working on the script! She and I have already started going back and forth on edits and it's progressing nicely! We have a lot of time to get this finished before production catches up, so I think we'll have a great finished product long before production on Chapter 3 wraps up.

Lots of things going on with Lycan right now.
Before I get to the Chapter 3 updates, I had mentioned previously that we've been in talks with a publisher in Spain. We now have 3 interested publishers who have reached out! We are definitely leaning towards one right now who would be the equivalent of Dynamite here in the states. The book wouldn't come out over there until Mid-2024, but still it's an exciting development!
Chapter 1
I am reprinting Chapter 1 since I'm starting to get low on copies. I did want to address a couple of issues that the first book had in that I forgot to give credit to the cover artist Christian Dibari. I had my Letterer touch up the page so now that's good to go!
There was also a typo in the copyright section which I also addressed.
Lastly, I added a logo for PrintNinja so that I could get a 5% overrun on my order. I ordered 2000 books this time around (gonna have to find someplace to make room for them. Since this series is going to be ongoing, I figure I should buy a good bit of the first book if I need them for future shows and Kickstarters.
Chapter 3
We got finished art for pages 36-39 this week. We are nearly half way there!
We also received some new colored pages! We got pages 10-12 with some minor fixes, but we also received page 13.
Chapter 4
No updates at this time!

Here are some updates:
Chapter 3
Page 35 had the art finished, and a few pages up to 35 were adjusted for continuity purposes. Pages are now good to go!
We got pages 8-12 from the colorist. I did ask for some minor changes for 10-12 as they were drawn from the perspective of night time, when it should probably be day time. The same goes for 13 so hopefully I got that in before Ezequiel got to that one!
Chapter 4
The script was finished last week, and I just heard from the editor who just got back from vacation. I'll let you know as I start seeing some notes from her come through!

Chapter 3
We received the finished page 33 from the artist! There is one minor continuity fix needed for page 32, but it's not a biggy!
We received pages 8 & 9 from the colorist, though each of those pages do need tiny fixes, but shouldn't be much of a problem!
Chapter 4
I finished the rough draft for Chapter 4! I sent it over to the editor, and as it currently sits, the book will be 107 pages of story with 1 page of Kickstarter extras. I'm sure the editor may shorten some bits, but for now it's in her hands!
I'm excited to see what she thinks, and where the book can improve!

Hope you've been having a great week!
Not too many updates for you as it has been pretty crazy. I just finished my 10th straight convention, so I'm looking forward to having the weekend off!
Chapter 3
We have received finished art for pages 25-29, and rough sketch designs that have been approved for next steps, for pages 30 and 31. In addition, the artist (Sal) has said that the publisher in Spain does indeed want to move forward with working with us, so the contract is being drafted. In addition, they are going to get us a Spanish translation of the book for us to review and get re-lettered.
No new colored pages.
Chapter 4
As I mentioned, I've been a little crazy busy so I don't have any news on the draft for Chapter 4's script. I will say that next week work is looking to possibly lighten a little, and as far as conventions go, apart from the first week in July, I am free and in the clear so I SHOULD have more time to write.

Hey everyone! Hope you've all been having a great week, and I hope you had a good long weekend (if you were lucky enough to get one)!
Just a few updates for you this week as I continue to hit the convention circuit hard!
Chapter 3
We received finished page 24, and we also received a sketch for page 25, which I assume I'll probably receive over the weekend. There was a bit of confusion on page 24, but after we ironed out the details, it's finished and looks great!
No coloring updates at this time.
Chapter 4
I managed to get to the script a little bit this week. I did panels for pages 55-60. I still have to complete the dialogue and captions for those panels however. I'm not super far off of my original outline, staying within about 10 pages or so.

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 5/26/23
Hey everyone! Hope you've all been having a great week!
Not a ton of updates for you this week. I've been working on a lot of other things around the house as well as convention after convention. Just went to Tidewater Comicon this past weekend and had a great time! This weekend I'll be at Horror On Main just north of Baltimore!
Chapter 3
We received finished pages 21-23 from the artist. They look amazing as always, and page 22 took a little longer as there was a bit of a language barrier between he and I. The way I described it wasn't really clicking for him, and even when I included a few reference images it still wasn't clicking. Once I drew him a super simple sketch, it immediately clicked, he took what I gave him and turned it up to 11, knocking it out of the park as always.
No coloring or lettering updates at this time.
Chapter 4
I mentioned previously that I got up to page 54 of the rough draft. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to work on it anymore since the last update!

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 5/19/23
Hey everyone! Hope you've all been having a great week! Sorry for the delay in posts, things have just been nuts with conventions and everything else!
I have a ton of updates for you!
This weekend I'll be at the Tidewater Comic Con! Another 5 weekends of conventions to follow until I get my first full free weekend!
Chapter 3
We have received finished drawn pages 13-20. We also received a sketch for page 21, so things are moving along nicely!
We have also received finished colored pages 1-7! While the coloring process is going a little slower than the drawing, that is typical and to be suspected.
Chapter 4
I have written 54 pages in the rough draft for Lycan: Solomon's Odyssey Chapter 4! I am expecting that I'm about half way done, and there's a few changes I'll probably make to the pages I've already created before sending it to the editor.

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 4/23/23
Hey everyone! Hope you had a great week!
It has been quite the eventful week, both personally and professionally!
Personally, my room mates are moving out this week, so I've been strugglebussin around trying to find a replacement so my bills don't triple. I do have someone coming by this week to check out the place. AND she has a doggo! Yoshi may get a friend!
Professionally, I had another convention, this time across the street at the local High School that I used to attend. They were doing a first time event, sort of like a mini con. While not perfect, it was still fun and it's always interesting to learn along with everyone else on how to change things for the better. The convention overall was a success!
I had mentioned previously that my artist had come to me with a possible publishing partnership over in Spain. I sent over a list of questions/demands this week and the company answered them all! They should be sending over a contract at which point I will review. If it sounds good, I'll sign it and Lycan will be published overseas!
Chapter 3
We got a few more finished pages this week, we are now up to page 12. Page 12 came in today, but needs one minor fix before it was finalized. The finished pages have been sent to the colorist, which I'm hoping to see a few in the near future!
Chapter 4
I got the OK from the editor this week, so I will begin writing the rough draft of the script starting this week!

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 4/14/23
Hey everyone!
Hope you're having a great week!
I have some interesting updates for you. First and foremost, I received a message from my artist this week stating that a company in Spain would like to publish my book. This is an exciting development and could help me reach markets and people that the book would have never reached otherwise. However, I need to do some do diligence first to ensure that nothing negative could happen to myself or to the series. I am very protective of it, so I would have to be absolutely sure that a publisher could not come back to bite me later. I'll give you more info as I get it!
I have conventions starting this weekend and going for the next 8 weekends. There's a solid chance I may burn myself out, but we'll see! This weekend is Big Lick Comic Con Nova at the Dulles Expo Center. Maybe I'll see you there!
Lycan: Solomon's Odyssey Chapter 3
This week we got rough drafts and finals for pages 9 and 10. That puts us a little over 10% complete with the initial art!
Lycan: Solomon's Odyssey Chapter 4
The editor appears to have gone over the outline and gave it some final edits. I say appears because I just simply haven't had time to look at it! Work and conventions have made life crazy as of late! If next week is a little slower, the hope is to start working on the rough draft of the script! For those of you wondering, it's looking to be a little bit longer than Chapter 3, somewhere in the mid to high 90's. To put it in context, Chapters 1 & 2 were both 60 pages of story with 12 pages of extras.

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 04/02/2023
Hey everyone! Hope you had a great weekend!
This was quite the week! Since the last post I attended Galaxycon in Richmond which was fantastic! We had one of our friends from Louisiana up all week and it was quite a weird birthday, so it was pretty busy.
Richmond Galaxycon
I had a great convention, meeting new people as well as old friends, and of course, selling books! I even had a person from my first convention last year come by a few times to say hello and pick up the new book! It was a lot of fun and I'm sure we'll cover it in greater detail on the podcast.
We had friends from all over the country meeting at this convention so I got to see and spend time with old friends. I even stayed up late the night before the convention and baked some cookies. I only got a couple hours of sleep, but the joy the cookies brought was worth it.
One other highlight of the show as that John Rhys Davies came by on Saturday and was wishing every table good luck and a good show. He also apparently went to one of the con parties to see people and say hi, and lastly he stayed after the show was over Sunday so that vendors could get a chance to take pictures and say hi. What a super nice guy!

We have up to page 8 of the book art finished! Or drawn at least. Page 9 is nearly finished, just one more minor fix before the artist produces the final page.
As the pages are finished and sent over, I pass them to the colorist. Once I get those pages, I'll send them to the letterer! The conveyor built continues!

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 3/17/23
Hey everyone! Hope you've been having a great week so far!
Sorry for the radio silence, I've been crazy busy with trying to get books out to people and dealing with a surprise illness for a few days. Not to mention conventions starting again! I have one in a few hours actually: Gettysburg Creature Feature Weekend!
On to the updates!
Chapter 2
The books arrived in 32 separate boxes! I didn't realize its been so long since I've given an update! I got the books around the beginning of March and then I spent time doing inventory to count the books, write Printninja a review, and get them ready for shipment. It took me a few days to create packages for all the Kickstarter orders, but as of today, all the books owed are shipped save for local deliveries and people who never responded to their surveys.
The conventions from here on out are going to have books 1 & 2, as well as new prints, a new pin, and some mini prints. Last night I spent a few hours figuring out how I want to assemble the new table, which includes having an ipad for email sign up, a new book holder, and all the other goodies I normally have.
Chapter 3
Production continues for book 3! Currently we have final illustrations for up to page 6, and pages 1-3 have been colored. We have a rough draft of pages 7 & 8, but I had a few notes for the artist. Once I see the revisions we'll move forward with getting those pages finalized!
Chapter 4
The outline hasn't been finalized yet, so I haven't started the script. However, the editor recently got back from her honeymoon, so I didn't want to throw anymore on her plate haha. I'm thinking that in the next couple weeks we'll get that finalized so script production can begin.

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 02/19/2023
Hey everyone! Hope you had a great week!
I have a few updates for you!
Chapter 2
The book is still somewhere in transit. I have received ALMOST all of the physical rewards for the Kickstarter. The only item left are the enamel pins which haven't shipped yet. I'm told they should be out by the end of February so I'm hoping I then get them in time to ship them alongside the rest of the Kickstarter rewards. I'd really rather not have to send an additional package to all of those tiers.
I'm hoping to have the audio commentary edited in the next week or two!
Chapter 3
Production continues! All of the characters are sketched, and now we have some completed colored character designs. We also have the first 3 pages of the book sketched and drawn!
Chapter 4
Our editor is still on her honeymoon (congrats!), so we haven't been able to move forward with completing the outline yet.
In addition, I attended my first convention of the year - Farpoint. It was a lot of fun and I met some really great people. However, I am not sure I'll be back because I just don't think its, thematically, a good fit.

Hey everyone!
Hope you all had a great weekend. I have had a ton going on, but not necessarily comic related!
Personally, and I'll keep this short since it's the least interesting, I gotta figure out my living situation, I got sick, and my car's transmission crapped out 0.5 miles after leaving the mechanic when we put on new tires, got an oil change, and got the car inspected. When it rains it pours. I did manage to get a replacement car for now, and for longer trips I may rent, but for now, the living situation is the only thing that isn't set in stone.
Now for the book updates!
Chapter 2
No shipping updates yet. However, we did receive the prints in the mail today! That only leaves the pins, the books, and the buttons.
We are still working on the audio version of the book as well.
My good friend Charles and I finished recording our behind the scenes commentary for the Kickstarter reward. All that's left with that is to edit it together!
Chapter 3
Production continues! We are still in the process of character design for the major players in the book. As of today there is only one character left! I sent over the final script so when Sal finishes the characters, he can start on the actual pages!
Chapter 4
Still waiting for final approval on the outline before writing the actual script. Hoping that in the next week or two we get that approval and can move forward!

Chapter 2
No shipping news, which is to be expected. However, production on Kickstarter rewards continues! Charles and I started the audio commentary. We are half way finished with recording, and expected to finish this upcoming weekend.
The audio version of the book is also underway. The cast has been set, the scripts have been sent out. Some recordings have already come in. Once I have them all, I'll piece it together, edit, and add audio embellishments to the background.
Chapter 3
Production has begun!
Sal has started creating character sketches. Of the first three sketches, one was perfect and needed no changes. The other two sketches we had a few back and forth discussions to refine the concepts to finality.
Since then I received another 3 character sketches. Two of them were perfect and needed no changes. The remaining one required many changes. I don't put that on Sal, it's just how the process can go sometimes where how I describe it, is not how the other person envisions it. So, we keep going back and forth and narrowing things down bit by bit until the character is final.
Chapter 4
The outline for Chapter 4 has been completed. The writing editor has been signed and has received the outline. Once I hear back and get approval or changes, I'll begin production on the script!

I have quite a few updates for you on the Lycan series.
Chapter 2
No shipping updates, which is expected at this time. I ordered and received the glow in the dark Kickstarter t-shirts.
The audio version of the book has been completely cast. I made individuals scripts for each person based on their character and it includes background characters if they want to participate with that as well! There's talk about having a group session to do a read through of the script so we'll see if that happens!
Chapter 3
Contracts have been sent and signed by most of the team. The artist is the last person, and they'll be signing today!
Production will begin tomorrow! This will start with character sketches. I researched clothing, architecture, ethnicity and anything else I could come up with and put together a folder of reference photos for the artist. I also gave brief descriptions of each character.
Chapter 4
Writing should begin this week, assuming nothing crazy happens. This will begin with an outline of the book breaking down what happens in general on each page. This is to give me a direction to build off of and it'll give me a rough idea of the length. I'll talk it over with the writing editor before moving on to the actual script.

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 10/19/22

Let's get to the updates!
Chapter 2
I mentioned previously, that I am waiting on a few more responses in order to get the last pages needed to print, over to the letterer. I am now down to 3-5 responses needed before I can move forward. I've tried reaching out to them on both Kickstarter and through email, so hopefully I hear back soon. I don't want to move forward by guessing what name they want to appear in the book because these people paid money to have their names appear and they should have the ability to have it appear like they want, if I can help it.
Speaking of lettering, the editor has given me edits for the book! I agreed with all the edits and sent them over to the letterer. I haven't received them back yet, but I did have an epiphany. There are 3 main characters in the book...and I never actually introduced them. The entire team missed it! If you're wondering how that could happen, well, if you're only ever looking at a script, you constantly see the characters names. I venture to guess that is how we missed it. I sent a note over to the letterer so hopefully that'll get fixed before we send to print!
Speaking of printing, I got in touch with my contact at PrintNinja to talk about the quote that I had locked in. You have a certain amount of time in order to keep your quote so I wanted to make sure I could get it to them in time. I also had to update the figures with them to modify the quote because a number of things were dependent on the Kickstarter that didn't happen. I was not aware of this, but you need to order a minimum of 250 slipcases, and I only need 3 so at this time we won't be going that route. We also didn't hit the stretch goal for the foil lettering so I had that removed. I am sticking with 1000 books. 100 of each cover in the hard cover format (because I think they're pretty awesome), and then 300 of the ghoul cover, 200 for the bodies cover, and 200 for the blood moon cover. I'm anticipating it'll still cost somewhere between 5000-6000 to print them, but we'll see!
Chapter 3
We haven't started production yet, but I did reach out to the artist to see how he was doing and see if there was an update on when he might want to start. It's looking like everything is proceeding as expected and he will begin in January. This means that my timetable will probably hold true. We won't end up having a Kickstarter in 2023, because the book won't be finished. I don't want to do a Kickstarter if the book isn't finished (or nearly finished). If you aren't aware, the reason it won't be done in time is that the book is 50% longer than chapters 1 or 2. I'll probably end up doing a Kickstarter in March of 2024. I definitely don't want to do it late in 2024 because it's a major election year and that is a bad time to try to ask for funds.

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 9/29/22
Hey everyone!
Hope you have had a great week! Sorry again for the delay in posts, this month is a crazy one with trips and the Kickstarter! Things should be returning to normal after this week. Let's get to the updates:
Chapter 1
Since the last update, I attended another convention, and have one this weekend as well. The last convention was held in Erie, PA. Got to spend time with some awesome people, and did sell a few books! This next convention is a small one in Lehigh Community College, in PA. It'll be the last weekend of the Kickstarter for book 2, so it'll be interesting to see what happens!
Chapter 2
The Kickstarter for Chapter 2, as of right now, reached its funding goal! As such, as long as nothing catastrophic happens, we will have successfully funded our second straight Kickstarter campaign for the Lycan series. It was a very stressful campaign. I think for future campaigns I will make the goal smaller just because it'll mean less stress.
I don't think I'll do a Kickstarter next year, because the 3rd book probably won't be done in time. It's 50% longer at 90 pages of story. If the book is almost finished as we get close to September, I'll consider it. I won't do it later in the year because then you creep towards the holidays. It'll probably be March of 2024.
The pages are all complete for Chapter 2, we are just editing the lettered pages to make sure there are no mistakes. Once that is complete, and once I receive everything I need from the Kickstarter backers, I can send the book to print! I'll keep you updated as that goes.

Lycan: Solomon’s Odyssey Updates 9/11/22
Hey everyone! Hope you had a good week. Sorry for the delay in posting. It has been...crazy to say the least. I had Dragoncon last weekend, and I had to prep for it the week before that and then when we got back I had already launched the Kickstarter so I have been just grinding away at that. The work never ends!
Let's get to our updates!
Chapter 1
We've had a couple conventions since last speaking! We had the Maryland Pop & Horror con...it didn't go great. Most vendors did not make their table cost back...myself included. I met some great people along the way and made some great contacts so it wasn't a total bust! I just know not to go there next year is all.
Dragoncon was the launch of the Kickstarter! Didn't get to do as much promotion as I would have liked but I did get to have a book selling there and we actually sold 24 books in a very limited amount of time which was really cool! One day I may even sell books in the vendor hall...but not until I get a sturdier vehicle...
Chapter 2
The pages are all colored! They are ALMOST all lettered! We also got the final 2 covers for the book from the amazingly talented Matthew Sutton!
The Kickstarter has launched! If you haven't already checked it out you can do so by going to lycanbook.com and if you could share it with everyone you know, that would be fantastic!
There was a lot of anxiety regarding this Kickstarter. Still is honestly. Not sure why, but this campaign is really hitting me hard. I think moving forward I will lower the amount I ask for by a lot so that way I don't have to worry as much. Maybe I'll shoot for like...4k or something like that.
I have been really grinding to try to make it as successful as possible. Podcast appearances, social media posts every day, and collaborating with other creators. Not to mention just directly messaging people and trying to get it out at conventions. There's a few stores in my local area I need to contact as well.

Not a ton of production to share, but there a ton of other updates!
Chapter 2
We have colored pages all the way up to page 50. Only 10 pages to go! Two more covers are under construction right now as well. Once those are drawn, I'll send them to Ezequiel to color and we can get those updated on the Kickstarter.
Speaking of, the Kickstarter is still under construction as we continue to move closer and closer to the launch date of 9/2! www.lycanbook.com to be redirected there!
We tried recording the video...but the audio didn't go through, so we'll have to redo that this week hopefully.
We have all but 2 of the products designed, so once we have those two items and the two covers, we'll have all the art ready for the Kickstarter!
I've also started going to conventions! So far, the Big Lick Comic Con in Roanoke VA and the Wellsboro Comic Con in Wellsboro Pa. This weekend I'll be attending the Maryland Pop & Horror Con.
We will really dive in during the podcast, but they were a ton of fun and both a success! I made the table money back the first day on both conventions, so those are two pretty good starts! I met some great people, and got to spend time with friends at both. I'm excited to keep attending conventions and see how this all changes!
